Laura Long, M.D., MPH
Laura has spent more than 20 years serving as a senior physician leader and chief medical officer for a large commercial payer. During her time there, Laura launched a patient-centered medical home initiative in South Carolina, recruiting and providing technical assistance to more than 120 practices in five years. She was also a key leader in the SC Birth Outcomes Initiative which aligned insurers, providers, hospitals and advocates to reduce pre-term birth rates, improve breastfeeding rates and pay for better outcomes. In her time at BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina, she designed pilots in oncology and surgery to enable data sharing and pay for performance as well as launching bundled payment for joint replacement and bypass surgery.
In her current role, Laura focuses on bringing employers and providers together to focus collaboratively on improving the health of employees. She helps employers and providers align payment and benefit design, and develop measurable goals for improvement, to better the patient care experience and help employers save money.
Laura received her bachelor’s degree in zoology from Duke University and her M.D. from the Medical College of Virginia. She received her MPH in administration from the University of South Carolina.
